TÜRKAN ŞORAY KÜLTÜR MERKEZİ
The 5th International Symposium on Ecological Architecture and Planning will be held on 2–4 November 2026 at Türkan Şoray Kültür Merkezi, one of Antalya’s notable contemporary cultural buildings. We are meeting in Antalya for architecture, ecology, and the future. Organised under the theme “Eco-Integrity: Towards COP31 – The Future of Climate, Heritage and Communities”, the Symposium will bring together academics, professionals, students, local authorities, public institutions, and participants from a wide range of disciplines working on architecture, planning, climate, ecology, cultural heritage, and the future of our living environments over the course of three days in Antalya. The fact that this international gathering is hosted in a contemporary public building realised through an architectural design competition creates a strong connection between the Symposium’s discussions on architecture, the city, public space, and living environments and the venue itself.
The project for Türkan Şoray Kültür Merkezi was selected through an architectural design competition organised by Muratpaşa Municipality and the Chamber of Architects, Antalya Branch, and the building opened in 2018. OfficePAN’s proposal won the competition, and the completed building was subsequently recognised with awards for its architectural quality and the client’s approach to the project. Approximately two-thirds of the building is situated below ground level, allowing it to respond sensitively to the scale of the surrounding residential fabric, avoid dominating its context, and establish a strong relationship with the surrounding open public spaces. Together with the recreation area, event amphitheatre, and arts street in front of the building, the cultural centre functions not merely as an enclosed event venue but as a public gathering place integrated with urban life. From 2–4 November 2026, Türkan Şoray Kültür Merkezi will become a shared space for dialogue and exchange, hosting scientific sessions, panels, talks, exhibitions, workshops, and a variety of encounters.
